The project differed from U.S. tanks of the late 1950s – early 1960s primarily in appearance: the vehicle was assembled from rolled armor plates. At that time, American tanks used cast hulls and turrets, which were produced by a limited number of factories. This was sufficient in peacetime but would have been inadequate under mobilization conditions. A backup tank design using rolled armor was required. The Independent Engineering company from Detroit took on the project, proposing a vehicle with a hull and turret made of rolled plates. The work was terminated at the stage of test-firing mockups.
