Historical Reference
In the mid-1960s, the Bundeswehr, inspired by the Swedish Strv S, decided to create its own analogue based on German developments. In 1966, Krauss-Maffei and Rheinmetall received a design contract for a turretless tank with a gun rigidly fixed in the hull. Three years later, Rheinmetall presented a prototype, while Krauss-Maffei withdrew from the competition and focused on producing and upgrading Leopard 1 tanks.
However, the new vehicle turned out to be very expensive to manufacture and only slightly cheaper than the main battle tank Kpz.70, a program that was itself canceled due to high costs. Testing continued until 1972, after which the project was terminated.

Looks good, but a terrible tank.
