WoT RU: Roadmap Highlights (2025–2026)

About the Future of the Game

The last quarter of 2025 marks a turning point for core gameplay systems. The matchmaker will receive a major update, creating more balanced role-based teams and reducing repeated map selections, ensuring fairer and more varied battles. Artillery will see its most significant change yet, the permanent removal of stun mechanics, reshaping how SPGs influence the battlefield. Finally, testing begins for the special shell rework, designed to reduce their dominance, increase the importance of armor, and curb fast “turbo battles.”

Note: this is not a full list of all upcoming changes. The Roadmap only highlights the most important updates we want to reveal right now. Work on the remaining tasks and projects will continue as usual.

Alongside these core changes, players can also expect the return of Waffenträger: Revenge with a new boss and the debut of the Halloween PvE event “Rift”, starring the colossal German Ratte.

From here — let’s go into details!

Q4 2025

Waffenträger: Revenge

Alliance, Hounds, Sentinels, Waffenträger… for a tanker, these words sound like music!

At the start of the upcoming autumn, the beloved 1-vs-6 battles return in the “Waffenträger: Revenge” event. Our game designers have already created a brand-new “boss.” Very soon, you’ll get to meet him yourself.

Matchmaker Update

This year we’ll continue refining the matchmaker — one of the key systems that directly affects gameplay comfort.

• The first improvement concerns vehicle selection. To make battles fairer and more engaging, the matchmaker will strive to create mirror teams by roles.
• The second improvement affects the map rotation system. Now it will try to avoid sending players to the same map repeatedly.

Get ready for a broader geography of battles!

New Game Event: Rift

A big premiere for those who miss the mystical Halloween atmosphere.

Rift is a brand-new PvE mode with unusual mechanics, a dark map, and a dangerous main enemy — the German super-heavy twin-barreled tank Ratte.

Artillery Rework

By the end of this year, we’ll continue actively working on artillery adjustments.

• The biggest news: we have made the final decision to remove the stun mechanic from artillery permanently. Yes, that’s right — SPGs will no longer have stun.
• In the current update, stun is already temporarily disabled. However, in Update 1.37, it will return briefly. This is because we need time to rework Personal Missions and, most importantly, improve other SPG characteristics. Which exactly? That will be revealed in Field Tests.
• Stun will be removed for good at the end of 2025, together with the release of reworked SPGs.

Special Shell Rework

The final major experiment of 2025 concerns special shells. The goal of the changes is to reduce their use in battles, strengthen the role of armor, decrease the number of “turbo battles,” and create more equal conditions for all players.

Testing will begin in Q4 2025 (within Field Tests), with implementation planned for 2026.

Q1 2026

Frontline Update

Significant changes are coming to one of World of Tanks’ most beloved modes — Frontline.

• Individual combat missions will appear.
• New support objects will be available on battlefields:

  • Defense: bunkers and flamethrower turrets

  • Attack: MLRS and an Airship

New Map

In 2026, the game expands with another 1 km² battlefield.

(Regarding map bans — the number of available slots will remain at two.)

Customization Interface Improvements: Part 1

We’ve begun work on reworking the tank customization interface.

• The first step will be updating the Appearance tab.
• It will soon become easier and more intuitive to use — for example, finding the right 2D style will be much simpler.

Vehicle Balance Updates (Community Vote)

We’re constantly working on outdated vehicle stats.

Soon we’ll launch open community votes where you decide which vehicles need rebalancing first. Your opinion will be taken into account!

Important: vehicles selected by the community will serve as an additional but important direction in the overall balance plan, fully integrated into the project’s development strategy.

Your vote is a vote for the future of World of Tanks!

Q2 2026

On Mars! Event Update

Work on improving existing game modes will continue.

In spring 2026, expect a reworked “On Mars!” event.

Customization Interface Improvements: Part 2

We’ll continue refining the customization system.

• The Appearance block will be further improved for clarity and usability.
• Searching for styles, decals, and other customization items will become even easier.

Map Balance Updates (Community Vote)

Another key issue is the imbalance of win rates across maps.

Similar to the vehicle vote, we’ll launch another voting stage where you choose which maps should be reworked first.

Important: maps chosen by the community will also become part of the overall balance strategy.

Q3 2026

Waffenträger Event Update

Changes and improvements will also come to the Waffenträger mode. Expect a reworked version in autumn 2026.

Crew Rework

In Update 1.36, you already saw some crew interface changes (e.g., improved sorting when moving crew, and soon — a collapsible crew widget). But that was just the beginning.

• Crew-related work will continue, and the overall interaction system will be improved step by step.
• A key priority is crew skills: some of them are outdated and rarely used. By the end of next year, we will introduce a reworked Crew system with a fresh design and updated skill mechanics.
• Naturally, we’ll keep improving interfaces for overall gameplay comfort.

Vehicle Balance Updates (Community Vote)

Another round of open voting will be launched. Take part and choose the vehicles that need rebalancing.

The selected vehicles will be integrated into the project’s development strategy.

Q4 2026

Map Balance Updates (Community Vote)

Share your opinion on which existing battle locations need adjustments.

Selected maps will also become part of the World of Tanks development strategy.

Customization Elements as a Resource

Alongside customization interface improvements, we also plan to introduce a new resource system for appearance elements, with the option to exchange them.

    1. lmao fitting username
2.0 is only second to 0.9.18 in terms of how detrimental of an “update” it is to the game

    2. Yea these comments about Putin-Controlled Game is full invaild…always coming to WOT Discord to spam their propaganda.

  1. So…who exactly is there to develop all of this? usually the state takes themother company and all the developers should start programming…something else.
I assume this roadmap was still lestas OG plan.
But I doubt it will completely work out.

If it does though, its nice for the players that are left, now actively supporting their government.

    1. yes because the players decide who owns the game they want to play.

you play wot because you want to support wg or because you want to play the fucking game?

you go to the shop that you want to support or the one that has the product you want?

      average dogshit take from you

  2. Lesta are good at attempting the solve the right problems. But they’re bad at finding the correct solutions to those problems.
