References to the TD variant of the 10.5 cm L/68 were found in text files from WoT versions 0.8.x. Since no German tank destroyer ever had that gun in reality, this can only be traced back to the Jagdpanther II, which was shown with a very similar-looking gun in its HD model preview.
Players of WoT Blitz might have noticed the abnormally long gun on the Jagdpanther II techtree icon this is actually the scrapped 10.5 cm KwK L/68.
Really interesting to see how the Jagdpanther II was originally planned with the 10.5 cm KwK L/68 — that would’ve made it a serious long-range threat! It’s a shame it never made it into the final version, but it’s cool that traces of it still exist in older game files and models. Always love these behind-the-scenes looks at what could’ve been. Maybe someday they’ll bring it back as an alternate configuration or a premium?
