With the release of Update 1.29, the SZDV Vz. 50 (
Czechoslovakia, TD-8, premium, mechanic: gun cooling) will be driven in Random Battles by developers and Supertesters.
Historical Reference:
After World War II, Czechoslovakia aimed to develop its own heavy self-propelled gun. The primary objective was to combine the layout and powertrain of Soviet assault guns with a German suspension system, which offered better ride smoothness and load distribution.
Another challenge was to increase the gun’s rate of fire, and the proposed solution focused on reducing barrel heating during firing. Engineers developed a liquid cooling system for the gun barrel, but it turned out to be extremely bulky. It required a large coolant reservoir and a pumping station, which in turn necessitated modifications to the power supply system and the installation of a more powerful generator.
These complications, along with the difficulty of integrating the Soviet transmission with the German suspension, ultimately led to the cancellation of the project.
