Historical Reference:
In the late 1950s, Czechoslovakia began considering moving away from using Soviet tanks. As a result, the Military Technical Institute (VTU) developed a project for a high-speed medium tank that would match the performance of the Soviet T-54B and T-55.
The vehicle was intended to be equipped with the maximum number of domestically produced components, including licensed-manufactured guns and a diesel engine from Škoda. The tank had an original design and significant potential, although some solutions were considered outdated.
However, after a thorough review of the project involving Soviet specialists, a decision was made not to spread resources too thin. Under the Warsaw Pact framework, Czechoslovakia’s army was instead equipped with T-55 tanks. Development of the vehicle was halted at the draft design stage.
