One of the headliners of the show, the King Tiger from the Musée des Blindes in Saumur, France, will participate in TANKFEST for the first time and will feature prominently in our Tankfest Online Historical Livestream. The arena line-up will also include plenty of unique historic and modern vehicles from the Tank Museum’s collection (the finest display of moving armor that features the FV4005 we all helped restore last year). Along with the arena demonstrations, expect lectures from tank experts, Living History encampments, and more.

King Tiger From Saumur: The Full Bio

Several machines make up the King Tiger in the Musée des Blindés. It was assembled by French specialists after the war to provide them with a working tank for testing. The turret and part of the mechanics belonged to the command tank 300 of the 3rd company of the Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503. It fought in Vexin Normand at the end of the Battle of Normandy, suffered a mechanical breakdown in full retreat, and was abandoned by its crew on 28 August 1944.

The first dynamic demonstration of the King Tiger after its return to service at the Musée des Blindés, in the second half of the 1970s.
