T-54D (United Nations, Tier-10, MT, techtree)
A large number of T-54 (T-55) tanks were in service in Middle Eastern countries, but they were beginning to become outdated. One of West Germany’s defense firms entered the market with a proposal to modernize these tanks using West German components.
According to the project, the tank would receive protective blocks, increasing its mass slightly but significantly improving its protection against shaped charges. Its defense against kinetic projectiles was also enhanced. For ease of driving in travel mode, a cutout was provided in the left front block, and the block itself (along with the adjacent one) could be lifted.
An optional upgrade included replacing the 100 mm D-10T gun with the more advanced 105 mm L7A3 gun, which surpassed the Soviet weapon in both armor penetration and accuracy. Customers could also opt for upgrades to outdated communication systems, observation devices, aiming equipment, and the replacement of machine guns with German MG 3s.
The project did not attract customer interest and was never implemented.
