In 1959, the first projects for mounting 105 mm guns on the Kanonenjagdpanzer appeared. At the same time, the problem of the barrel protruding too far forward arose. As a result, the KanJpz-2 project was created.
The gun mount on the vehicle was moved back to the starboard side, and the front of the hull was asymmetrical. The project remained on paper, but much of what was planned for the KanJpz-2 was later repeatedly used in later projects.
