detailed stats on tanks.gg

In the post-war period, the Czechoslovak army gained experience operating IS-3 heavy tanks thanks to Soviet deliveries. Although the priority in the 1950s was the development of medium tanks and self-propelled guns, heavy tank development also received some attention.

One such project was the TBT (Těžký bojový tank). The concept behind this vehicle was a highly mobile heavy tank similar to the T-10. One of the notable features of the project was the extensive use of stamped components. This was due to the fact that cast parts had lower shell resistance. However, by the early 1960s, Czechoslovakia shifted towards producing Soviet-designed medium tanks instead of developing its own. As a result, from 1957 onward, the Czechoslovak industry transitioned to manufacturing the T-54A. Consequently, the TBT remained only a conceptual project.
