WoWS ST 0.9.7, Kitakami

In Update 0.9.7, Japanese Tier X cruiser Kitakami will enter the test.

Kitakami is an unusual cruiser, with her main armament consisting of 5 quadruple torpedo launchers on each side. These torpedoes can travel up to 15 km at a speed of 57 knots and deal up to 15,633 damage. Because of her relatively fragile armor, weak AA defense, and low HP pool, Kitakami has to rely on her low basic detectability – 10.6 km – and her special Smoke Generator, which has a low smoke duration time but a large number of charges. The main gameplay of the cruiser revolves around stealthy attacks using a large number of torpedoes from a safe distance. To balance Kitakami’s efficiency in the control of straights and flanks, she will only have access to narrow and “super narrow” torpedo spreads.

We will carefully watch how this unusual cruiser will prove herself in battle, and will implement the necessary changes to make playing her and against her interesting. Additionally, we understand there might be concerns about the ship dealing damage to allies, and we plan to take them into account when the ship will be released.

AA defense short-range: continuous damage per second – 105, hit probability – 85 %, action zone 0.1-2.5 km;
AA defense long-range: continuous damage per second – 18, hit probability – 90 %, action zone 0.1-5.8 km;
Number of explosions in a salvo – 1, damage within an explosion – 1,610; action zone 3.5-5.8 km.

Maximum speed – 32.0 kt. Turning circle radius – 640 m. Rudder shift time – 7.0 s. Surface detectability – 10.6 km. Air detectability – 7.2 km. Detectability after firing main guns in smoke – 4.6 km.

  1. a torpedo wall will always be effective no matter on which Tier it happens, 20 torpedos per side wih 15km range and only detected at 1.9km distance? I can foresee a lot of rage at Top Tier

  2. Looks like the Yudachi torps which are terrible. Except now at tier 10. Even 20 of them wont do much damage! Lol. And you can see them for miles away. Definitely want to take torp acceleration and the torp module. Should get them to 65 knots or so.

  3. bah, the torps are still too slow to have any effect on a battle.
    All it does is make the Captains skill that spots torps a bit further away look a little more valuable, coz no one in history has ever taken this skill yet.

    If you build torp speed you lose range down to 12kms or so, and your ship is spotted at 11kms, doesn’t leave much wiggle room, to launch from both sides in single attack.

    Get to 11kms range, begin turn away, drop one side of fish, now detected as still turning away, pop smoke, turn into smoke, drop other side of fish, FLEE! FLEE! FLEE!.

    And repeat.
