WoWS ST 0.9.7, American battleships

Please note that all information in the development blog is preliminary and subject to change during testing. Any showcased features may or may not end up on the main server.

Researchable American battleships Kansas VIII, Minnesota IX, Vermont X, and Tier VII American battleship Florida will be added to the game in the upcoming supertest session.

Battleships of the new sub-branch have devastating salvos (e.g. Vermont X has 12 18″ guns) but a long main battery reload time, low speed, and relatively light armor.

Florida is a representative of the same battleships sub-class as Champagne and Slava: she has good accuracy, but weak armor and a relatively high-sitting citadel

  1. max speed 23kts at tier 10? ewww.
    secondary range 6kms ewww.
    rudder shift 19 seconds ewww.
    surface detect 19kms ewww.

how does this line fill a niche from the other USN BB line?.

All I see is a long range sniper that can’t dodge torpedoes.

    1. actually 19 sec rudder shift is on par with most Tier 10 BBs, it is definetly better than the Montana and Yamato at 22 secs, of course not as good as the glorified Soviet BBs (16 secs R.S.T) or the British Thunderor, but should not be slower than the others at changing direction, besides looking at the renders I would not be surprised if their torpedo bulckheads had the highest torpedo damage reduction in the game

  2. this is only because of my own curiosity but I would really like if WG revealed which specific design study was used when modelling each ship

I know they could literaly make dozens of schemes for each class and then have one chosen to developed into a proper plan, so from that aspect I am confident these are based on real designs (the Tier 8 is obviously the original South Dakota-class) but it would be nice to know which specific class they are related to

the Tier 10 Ohio is a good example, we knew that on the preliminary stage of the Montana-class design the requirement were for either 16 inch L/50 guns or 18 inch guns, we also know they studied and realized that for the 18inch option to be viable they would need to reduce from 3 to 2 guns per turret, and voilá, we get a “what if” design based on real aspects of the Montana-cass project
additionally they also thought of using 6in (152mm) secondary guns instead of the usual 5in (127mm) guns

    1. I don’t like the modified Tillman they put there at tier X… paper ship

      1. just as I was writing my comment I went to check the «spring styles» books again,I also thought the Tier 10 looked like the Tillman’s, particularly because I couldn’t find any other with 3 smoke stacks besides the Tillman’s
as for paper ships there’s no escape, although in this case if the Tier 10 is truly a Tillman they obviously had to heavily modify the ship to look even remotedly modern/up-to-date with other Tier 10 BBs

  3. I’m going to grind these. It will take some time to adjust to the slow speed at high tiers but as long as the armor holds these ships will have the heaviest AP volleys in the game. Minnesota has the firepower of Montana, and Vermont is just outrageous with 12 457mm guns (that’s two Georgias worth of main guns).

I think the sigma could use a buff though, the absurd firepower is already balanced by a very slow reload speed (and if people have any sense they’ll take the accuracy upgrade over the reload one).
