With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, World of Tanks is hosting a special event which will reward you with universal Crew members, Crew Books, plenty of x5 EXP tokens for any vehicle, and a bunch of other prizes. Jump in, complete special battle missions, and celebrate the Year of the Rat with your favorite game!

How It Works

Starting January 23, you’ll find special daily combat tasks named after the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac in your Missions tab. Completing missions (12 total) rewards the event’s currency — Golden Coins. You can see how many Coins you’ve earned by checking the bonus Lunar New Year Sleepy Cat mission in your client.

Note: Each mission can be completed only once per account.

The number of Golden Coins you have earned will also be displayed on the event landing page. You will need them to complete the Five Elements of Chinese geomancy: Wood, Fire, Earth, Water, and Metal, schematically depicted on this dashboard.

Each Element costs 300 Golden Coins to complete and completing each of the first four — Wood, Fire, Earth, or Water — will grant you one universal* “zero-Skill” Crew member (Commander, Loader, Gunner, and Driver) with the Brothers in Arms Perk.

As 2020 is the Year of the Metal Rat on the Lunar calendar, you will nee

d to complete all the other Elements to gain access to the Metal Element. Completing the Metal Element will reward you with two valuable Crew Books: a Training Manual (containing 250,000 XP for each Crew member) and a Personal Training Manual (containing 850 XP for a selected Crew member).

*A Crew member for whom you can select his nationality, tank class, and Tier. The only fixed variable is his Major qualification.

Want to boost your event progress and unlock more rewards? During the event, you will be able to purchase special bundles in the Premium Shop containing tanks, Personal Reserves, consumables, and additional Golden Coins.

NOTE: If you are a new player or have not logged in to the game client yet, the Golden Coins you have collected will be credited only after you log into the game. Golden Coins in Premium Shop bundles are bonus content and are not compensated.

  2. I wonder how many Golden Coins can you earn by completing all the 12 animal missions and how hard these missions will be.

    2. 1800 max it looks like. If you want you’ll probably have to buy the bundles but who knows, they might give a weekend mission though I doubt it.

      1. Wait, so not just chinese tanks? Can we complete the missions with tanks from other nation? Where you saw that, in the article it does not say 🙁

        1. I just completed the first mission with a few different tanks, none of them Chinese (on NA). I don’t have any Chinese tanks either.

  5. Would be fun if I could get the MAID for free this way, but I wonder how much of a grind that’ll be.

    1. I’m on NA, and right now I have only 1 mission for 150 coins. I can see tomorrow’s mission as well, and it gives another 150 coins. The event (on NA) lasts from January 23rd to February 4th (usually like 4 a.m.) for a total of 12 missions. I can also see a mission that asks me to earn 1800 coins, so it seems to confirm this is the max amount of coins.
      The M41D costs 2500 coins. Same thing for the WZ.

      So it seems you just can’t, you need to buy 700 more coins.

      Yes, you can also buy coins. They come in packs with a lot of stuff, and a few coins. There is a pack with 100 coins, another with 900 coins, and another with 1500 coins. The pack with 1500 coins costs the same as the 8,8 cm Pak 43 JagdTiger. The pack with 300 coins costs a little less than the Matilda Black Prince, so if you buy 3 of them it’s very close to the price of the T92 LT.

    Personal letdown, but the event seems much nicer than in previous years, so good job, WG!
