WoT Q&A – Slava Makarov 21.05.2018

Source: Rykoszet

Q: A few words about the KV-5?
A: The tests are just beginning, so the changes aren’t final, but we want old prem tanks to be competitive, and the KV-5 is the first step taken in that direction, so we hope it will have a warm reception. Tanks with limited MM have a very negative influence on the current balance.

Q: What next with the KV-2 (R) and the W40K universe?
A: WE wanted to make a unique camo scheme, something really outstanding and cool. Something that will be unique, so it will have to cost a bit. We’re analyzing the data from this experiment and we hope for more tanks with unique camos. We picked these two tanks because they sort of look like from Warhammer , but then we noticed the KV-2 really looks like its universe counterpart. We decided to make it another tank.

Q: What about prem tanks?
A: People look at stats more than ever. For example, when the Type 59 was released and people noticed how OP it is, they bought it en masse. By the way, I can tell you can expect something nice in the tech tree soon.

Q: About patch 1.0
A: Visually the new patch is excellent, but the maps had to be changed a bit. Initially I was against any changes to the arenas, but people urged me to try. A new wave of changes is coming. Currently, Ruinberg is a big sore spot for me. We experimented with the timing, and it seems we found a solution, but it also made the map even more unbalanced. We have to wait for a new version. We have a system to monitor times and winrates for each base, which helps us fix a lot of issues.

Q: About Province
A: I agree with people who don’t want it on high tiers. Our current goal is to improve details. We have a plan, a list called WoT 1.5, where we want to fix all errors  and add new stuff, which couldn’t make it to WoT 1.0. Specifically, it’s the interface, maps, pref MM and low tier rebalance.

Q: Right, lower tiers?
A: There are issues, it’s not a secret. We have big plans, but no details for now. Everything will take a bit of time to iron out.

Q: Will we ever see Frontline as a permanent mode?
A: There are a lot of issues with optimization. We want to introduce such things, which will be like by our players, and become popular. If we fix the FPS issues, then probably yes. The task list for WoT 2.0 (not 1.5) assumes introducing new game modes. Frontlne will appear, but most likely in another form.

Q: What about Battle Royale?
A: Players like it, and we’ll experiment with it. It will undergo massive changes, because it was made by the devs in their free time, which means they could do anything they wanted.

Q: Is arty still toxic?
A: I don’t think so, but we’re keeping tabs.

Q: Is HE still problematic?
A: It’s not a problem for us anymore.

Q: What about “all chat”?
A: Sadly, no chances for now. Over a third of the people in support needed to engage in issues with insults and such. That why we can’t reintroduce it now.

Q: About crew changes
A: I can’t talk about it yet. We didn’t talk about crew skills and perks, so if I would talk about it now, I’d have to say what we planned. Right now I can only tell it’s all a big surprise and part of out WoT 2.0 list. Actually, 1.0 is what we wanted to introduce before Rubicon.

Q: Wheeled vehicles?
A: No comments.

Q: Where’s Murazor? Is he still working for WG?
A: He’s my underling, working as a consultant in the balance department. He’s also committed to some new things.

Q: Any updates on the EU tree?
A:  We’re thinking about it all the time. Right now the existing trees aren’t a problem. When we speak about the EU tree, we assume it’s about countries which can’t have a fleshed out tree, but a few tanks could appear. Switzerland has three tanks, but only for the top tiers, and nothing else. Right now our research has ended, and we’re debating.

Q: Will old game modes return?
A: I can’t promise anything. You have to understand that old game modes would have to be reworked from scratch.

Q: ST-I changes?
A: We wanted to replace the IS-4 with it and give it something extra – two guns. But at the time, we don’t have the manpower to implement all the new GUI features needed for it.

Q: Anything new about personalization?
A: The KV-2 (R) is not a skin, but a remodel, as you might have noticed. The technology is still in the prototype phases, and the Valhallan Ragnarok a good example.

Q: If we don’t like the KV-5, can we expect exclusive trade options?
A: Yes, but I can’t give a list. Expect rarely sold tanks.

Q: Maybe it’s time to finally touch the CZ tree?
A: We used what we could, but the Italians have a few TD candidates.

Q: Plans regarding Bonds?
A: We plan to use them on a massive scale. I’d want to see a lot of things exchanged for Bonds, like HESH ammo and some other interesting things. Maybe you’ll be able to buy prem tanks removed from sales, or new camo, presets and other stuff.

  1. Q: Is HE still problematic?
A: It’s not a problem for us anymore.

    I laughed hard at this….

    1. HE was never a problem. You can’t just look at type 5 gold shell and call all HE shells in the game a problem.

      1. HE is not the problem, but the Type 4/5 as a platform for a huge derp is a problem. And the p2w shells on those tanks too.

The KV2 is the same thing at tier 6, but that thing is slow and easy to hit and pen. The same goes for the FV4005, that tank is also easy to counter. The Type 5 has way to much armor for that.

        1. The 183/4005 are broken, not that theyre good tanks, but the fact they can instantly delete someone is a stupid mechanic. Plus they have turrets and arent terribly slow.

          Too strong.

HE is too strong in general, a VK 100 tomato player was loading HE and hitting me consistently for 200 damage in my t26e5, doesnt even have to aim.

          That isn’t a good mechanic.

          1. Well … The “Red” VK 100 Sounds Like a Green/Blue Player to usE HE at T26E5

          2. 183 and 4005 are what arty should’ve been in the first place: support behicles with a lot of firepower, incredible ability to punish aggressive plays. They also can break a stalemate by shitting on defending forces easily. But without retarded artillery view and ability to shoot anywhere on the map. Brits are fine, my dude.

    2. Well, that answer sums up most of the problems this game ever had…

  2. “Q: If we don’t like the KV-5, can we expect exclusive trade options?
A: Yes, but I can’t give a list. Expect rarely sold tanks.”

    Skorpion G?

Seriously ? Isn’t Switzerland able to make several branches ?

      1. and that’s not even the complete one, there’s a researcher made TT with:
HT mini line (4 top tiers, starts at tiers 5 and 6 with medium tanks)
        2 TD lines
        2 MT lines
        SPG line
        LT line
and still a lot of premiums available, so when Slava says:

«Switzerland has three tanks, but only for the top tiers, and nothing else. Right now our research has ended, and we’re debating»

it is nothing but the biggest lie

follow this link for TT proposal:
        http://pipboy.wtz.cz/wot-ch/

NOTE: on the top left corner (below the «ABOUT» button) you can switch to view a player made proposal for the extension of the Czech TT, it includes:

        current MT line
        LT line
        TD line
        SPG line
        MT mini line (T2~T4)
        and plenty premiums

    1. Exactly what I thought.
Switzerland could build a whole tree by itself and doesn’t need to the in the EU tree. Same for Yugoslavia and probably also for Romania and Hungary (though a bit of research needs to be made on them).
If those 4 nations get added to the EU tree, they would get fucked up.
The EU tree should have tanks from Spain, Finland, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Bulgaria, *Denmark, *Estonia (*=only have wheeled vehicles).
If it really is needed, the EU tree could get some extra British/German vehicles which are not in the game yet.
Someone should make a serious proposal for an EU tree.

      1. Indeed !
Still…Which crew nationality if all these tanks are put into the same tech tree ? Suit and tie ? With wallet ? 😀
Though it could still be possible to add nations separately I believe.

        1. You would probably be able to select the nationality yourself with a unique option of the EU tree,

@erwin0859 wanna try making a complete EU tree with me and try sending it to WG?

          1. @lupdavid2002 Sadly I think there are more suitable people for this, I never tried ever to make any tech tree, some other persons probably could actually do this effectively, after doing some tech trees already.

        2. Imo EU tree won’t come without reworked crew system that throws away or at least reworks the idea of tanks being binded to crews of the same nation.

  4. People still think there will be a crew 2.0? They have been promising this crap for 3 years or more. I don’t know how much longer do they need to actually implement the switch of sixth sense from commander to radioman as a free skill like they had promised a long, long time ago.

    1. it took 5 years or so, untill them reworked maps.
about 4 years from first announce, to rework pmm tanks, but still sold 1 every 2 weeks

  5. “Plans regarding Bonds?
A: We plan to use them on a massive scale. I’d want to see a lot of things exchanged for Bonds, like HESH ammo”

oh, after starting to change the p2w Gold ammo, we need to find a new way to have p2w ammo in game

    1. how is the bond ammo p2w (maybe play to win), as you can’t buy bonds for real money like with gold

      1. Maybe for the moment, but i think WG will implement the buy Bonds for Real money.

      2. If you really want to make bonds and stay competitive, you have to play tier 10, which is a credit drain. You then have to pay for the credits.
They do give some bonds to lower tiers, but that’s just to shut you up if you say that you have to pay to win.

        1. And on what tiers do you find HESH shells? 8-10. So for people playing lower tiers it really doesn’t matter at all

    2. p2w!no if u play u get better game rewards as long as they never sell bonds they can never be p2w the only arguement for that is that u need tier 10’s to semi effectively grind them but well the players who are concerned about playing tier 10 competively probably already have means of grinding credits and arent bothered about tine apent just look at frontline

    1. If anything, more than before.
Before, you had the issue of once in a while just getting wrecked.

Now, that possibility still exists, only if you get so much as lightly splashed, it’s massively increased reload speed, inability to hit anything, slower, etc…

      Stupid.
Either kill me or don’t hit me.
Don’t make make me suffer for 20 seconds and linger on while I get butchered.

  6. ” Tanks with limited MM have a very negative influence on the current balance.”

    really?
THEN WHY are WG still selling PMM Premiums in the Premium shop you can buy from T3 to T7 quite freely today right now

WG your full of corporate bullshit and plain old lies

    >> also I BET they have some special “flash sales 2 day only” for the PANTHER M10 & E25 here and there in the months to come
ALL loaded up expensive with big GOLD bundles

    then nothing happens ………….

    1. Every second week u can buy a Pmm Tank, so whats about doing something against the Pmm while on the other Hand, we sell more and more of em.

    2. No, tanks with limited MM have no influence on balance. They have bad influence of WG’s inefficient MM mechanism and they are changing limited MM prems to relieve the said mechanism instead of improving it or committing more resources to make it work more fluently.

  7. “Tanks with limited MM have a very negative influence on the current balance.”
What he meant to say is that the current balance has a very negative influence on the game, and thus, on the limited MM tanks.

  8. All talk no action and if they take action it will be for the worse. Whats the point buffing tanks they introduce tanks that are better anywyas. I never understood how some tanks could get past the supertest.

  9. HE and arty not problems? lmao this guy wins idiot of the year award.

And people think murazor was the problem.

    1. no, arty is not a problem anymore.. it time to stop whining.. arty will not go anywhere

        1. I like arty way more now than I did before. Getting one shot by arty in a heavy vehicle was not uncommon and made me so angry. The stun mechanics were a nice addition in my opinion and my friends agree with me. That being said it could still use a few more reworks.

          1. The problem is that arty can do much more damage on mediums and lights. Also they can reliably hit them, or splash weaker sides. It’s stupid, it has no place in this game.

  10. “Q: About Province
A: I agree with people who don’t want it on high tiers. ”

What about Mines, etc? ALL of WOT’s maps need to be the size of FrontLine’s map and then they can adjust the play area based on tiers. No tank should have a view range that covers more than 1/4 of the map at the most. A bonus to this would be that it would create numerous play areas on each map.

    1. Console version of WOT
most or nearly all Maps are 1200m x 1200m
      ~ and a few 1 or 2 maybe more are 1500m x 1500m

and they have few historical WW2 and etc El Alamien and some island Maps as well, in fact way more Maps than ln the PC version

  11. hmm, lately WG is showing a lot of evidence not understanding that it’s the customers they need to make happy. What do I read above? Frontline, players like it a lot, but we will most likely release it in a different form…. excuse me? Which part of “the players like it” you don’t get? Same thing for Battle Royale. Players like it, but of course we cannot release it, because developers could do whatever they wanted… Really? What kind of argument is that? Hello?! The players like it ! Anybody home?

    1. its WG logic, the ppl like something, so we need to change it.
its first good enough, when the ppl only complain about it like bopjectv4.
so as long as the ppl find its good, its not good for WG and after the changes, WG say, we heared the community.

  12. KV-5 will beat KV-4 after this buff. Hope that there will be buff about KV-4?

  13. Q: Maybe it’s time to finally touch the CZ tree?
A: We used what we could, but the Italians have a few TD candidates.

    Rly?!

  14. Is he fucking retarded?! How the fuck can you talk about warm reception for KV-5 changes, after 75 pages of “fuck you” from the players?

  15. Simple, he is delusional. That what happens when you make important decisions based on consultant’s recommendations, without ever opening the forums or, God forbids, the game.

The big boss,Kislyi, however, has other consultants and he is, usually, more aware of the mood.
Smells like another Rubicon in the making. People should be looking for new jobs.

  16. Genuinely have not come across a group that actively pursue activity that upsets its customer base..or just diesnt get it. Fix mm so tier 8 is fun. More maps that are bigger, remove the ability for arty to remove any hp. Just leave stun, leave pmm tanks alone and stop releasing op tanks that we free xp to then nerf…and stop making shit up like the lie that was the release re pref mm tanks. It should not be this hard to enjoy
