WoWP: New Game Mode: War of ‘Attrition’ & Update 2.0.4.5 Patchnotes

Source: EU Portal. I decided to merge the 2 articles, because they are quite small by themselves.

Will you let them weaken you?

‘Attrition’ will be active during certain weekends throughout the Operation Westwall event in March and April. Please check our Attrition Schedule to see when you can take part!

As the Allies and Axis forces come closer to battle in the new World of Warplanes event, Operation Westwall, two new game modes will also become available. One of which is ‘Attrition’. An alternative to the ‘Conquest’ mode introduced with Update 2.0, ‘Attrition’ will be playable during certain weekends in March and April, with excellent prizes available for players who tackle the associated missions!

New Game Mode: Attrition

Aptly named, this is a game of attrition, and a mode based on destroying enemy aircraft. If you’re a fan of chaotic dogfights, this mode will definitely be interesting. The victory conditions are simple: if the opposing team reaches 0 resources, or if your team has the most resources by the time the game finishes, you win.

Resources are deducted from a team upon each destruction of a plane. Controlling sectors in this mode multiplies not the number of your resources, but the amount you will deplete the enemy’s resources when you destroy their aircraft. Also keep in mind that the resource multiplier doesn’t depend on the sector type, but only the number of sectors controlled. For example, two sectors will double the amount of Resources lost by the enemy, three sectors will triple the number, and so on, up to five.

All aircraft types may be played in this game mode, and spawns are not limited. There is no waiting time fine and team respawn is applied.

When Can You Play?

The ‘Attrition’ mode will only be available during the following three weekends across March and April:

  • Attrition: 9 March at 18:00 UTC – 12 March at 02:00 UTC
  • Attrition: 23 March at 18:00 UTC – 26 March at 02:00 UTC
  • Attrition: 6 April at 18:00 UTC – 9 April at 02:00 UTC

Prizes

Naturally, we cannot create entire new game modes without providing you with the opportunity to win some great rewards! In Operation Westwall, you can earn our two brand new Tier VIII Premium planes as the final rewards. Play through two mission chains in the new modes, ‘Invasion’ and ‘Attrition’, to earn these fantastic planes:

Dornier Do 335 A-1 Pfeil – Tier VIII German Heavy Fighter

Germany’s secret weapon: a high-speed heavy fighter-bomber. Primed for both devastating bomb attacks on ground targets and holding air supremacy over enemy warplanes, this heavyweight makes for a powerful addition to your Hangar.

Curtiss XF15C – Tier VIII American Fighter

The Allies’ ace in the hole. American air forces fighting in Europe have deployed this swift and dynamic Fighter, equipped with powerful guns and a furious engine, to stop Germany in their tracks. Add this American avenger to your Hangar by finishing the Operation Westwall missions!

World of Warplanes 2.0.4.5 Patchnotes

Update 2.0.4.5 is coming to World of Warplanes, pilots! We are continuing our ongoing mission to make the game as great an experience as we can, and this patch brings important changes to some fundamentals of the game, so be sure to read on!

Post-battle statistics

The post-battle statistics window has been made significantly more detailed, so you can see just exactly what impact you had in your battles. Use this to find areas of improvement as well as where you shine in a team.

In the new window, you will see that aerial and ground targets are broken down into their specific types, as are sectors. As well as this, capture points are broken down into attack and defence.

Player Ratings

Win prizes for your participation in the currently running event. A player rating system has been added for those of you enjoying Operation Westwall for the last three weekends of the event – hopefully this can help you in your quest for one of the brand new planes! Players will be placed into one of five leagues after each battle weekend according to their Personal points score earned in the Invasion and Attrition game modes, and the placings and rewards will work as follows:

League Placing Reward
First League 1-10 30 Westwall Certificates and 100,000
Second League 11-100 15 Westwall Certificates and 50,000
Third League 101-500 5 Westwall Certificates and 30,000
Fourth League 501-2500 30,000
Fifth League > 2500 15,000

The ratings will be cleared before the next battle weekend and the rewards will be sent out to players the day after the battle stage ends.

Terminology change

Mastery points will be removed from the game interface completely. Their original intention was to be a way to assess players’ results in battle and to calculate XP rewards, but they ended up instead being quite confusing.

Game Guide

An illustrated guide has been added to the game client which includes helpful information on the game’s basics such as game modes, mechanics, aircraft progression, and game economics. We hope that players will find this useful as they begin, or want to learn more about, their journey.
