WoT EU: Urban Crusher: Meet the Object 705A

Source: WoT EU portal

Few top-tier vehicles among the Soviet lineup feel all that different to play in the big picture. Update 9.22 will fix that with a heavy-armored close-range fighter, which can bring more versatility to a rather traditional tank design school.

The Object 705A that entered Supertest last December is set to crown the upcoming alternative line of Soviet heavy tanks, starting with the IS-M at Tier VIII and reaching the Object 705 at Tier IX. The most authentic point about the trio is their rear-mounted turrets, which define their core playstyle.

The all-time classic, IS, will become the foundation for the upcoming branch, so you can start hoarding the needed experience to explore the three newcomers.

Breeding Offspring

Now back to the 705A. Finding proper analogues to this model would be a problem, but if you really want a relatively fair comparison, think of an IS-7 crossed with a Panzerkampfwagen VII.

You can easily tell that the 705A belongs to the Soviet line, just by looking at its shape. The hull somewhat resembles the IS-4, but, again, the feature to look at is the turret.

A tank this big must hide some impressive figures. Let’s take a closer look at what the Object has got.

Firepower

This is one of the most distinguishable characteristics of the Object 705A. The 152-mm gun is truly intimidating, compared to other barrels among heavy tanks, and will allow you to hold your opponents in awe thanks to the 650 alpha. But only at short and medium distances (up to 250 meters). Remember this is a Soviet tank, and the gun’s accuracy will significantly reduce your hit chance from 300 meters or above.

ProTip: Come closer, aim true.

View Range

If you own the 705A, be prepared to reveal your position before you notice an enemy. The tank is too far from being considered a sharpshooter, so the mediocre 390 meters of view range is all it’s got. If you decide to snipe, think of your teammates waiting for your help at the frontline.

ProTip: Don’t waste your time in the bushes.

Armor

The tank’s defense is especially effective in head-on encounters. The Object 705A can withstand the majority of shells hitting its upper plate with its 340mm of effective armor. Not to mention the turret, which starts from 330mm and reaches the crazy heights of 580mm. If you’ve been flanked, there are side skirt plates that can absorb incoming damage, but there’s also a part of the armor that’s only 100mm thick and has to be considered.

Your lower plate won’t be your best friend, either, as it’s only 244mm; almost bare minimum to survive at Tier X. Hiding it behind an obstacle will be the best of options, but if you’re completely exposed, try to angle your tank in a way that both helps you avoid penetration from the front and doesn’t reveal the thin line of your side armor.

ProTip: Focus on heavies, mind mediums, avoid TDs.

Mobility

The tank’s weight (around 100 tons) forgoes outstanding dynamics, as the Object can accelerate up to 40 km/h. In a massive drag race of tier-X heavies, it will come somewhere in the middle, and this is quite a reflection of the tanks’s dynamics in combat. With this max speed and 15 horsepower per ton, you can both reach a strategic point on a map swiftly enough and change your position in case there’s a breach on another flank.

ProTip: You can afford to make a wrong turn.

How to Play

There are three major factors surrounding the Object—turret, firepower, and accuracy—that will define the way you play this machine:

  • Go full contact. If there’s a group attack, you’re the one to lead the charge. The angled, thick armor will absorb multiple hits, letting your teammates unleash their rounds.
  • Be streetwise. Urban or mixed maps are where the 705A can really stand out. The turret will let you hide the lower plate behind 380+ millimeters of steel. Hard to pierce that.
  • Avoid long-range gun fights. You have enough armor and speed to approach enemies and punish them from a comfortable distance.

  1. So I don\’t get it, if the new tier X heavy after T10 and new medium tier X after Obj 430II will arive in this 9.22 update, why there is no oficial info about new tanks?

    1. I\’m pretty certain they stated they will come in a later patch, shortly after saying they will arrive in 9.22… We will see them in 9.23 or a micropatch before 1.0 i suppose.

    1. WG are dumb fucks if they think 244mm effective armor on the lower plate is not good. It is better than on both the is7, maus and e100.

      1. RIP KV-4 as well. The IS-M is just as good of a side-scraper if not better, and has a better gun and better mobility too. The same trend continues with the ST-I and IS-4.

        1. Well, they could make it worthwhile, if they gave some more gun depression to KV-4 and IS-4. ST-I has 8 degrees of gun depression. IS-4 is less flexible, IMO, because it loses this advantage the ST-I has over other USSR heavies.

          1. kv4 needs better gun handling considering its poor mobility and poor gun depression. The gun dispersion is absolutley shit on the kv4 and so is the aim time. Pen and ROF is nice though, but tanks like is3, defender and patriot just shits all over pretty much all tier 8 tanks, add a bit of gold ammo on top of that.

I like the kv4, but mostly because it is unique and has good pen and ROF so it can take lower skilled players and suprised them. For everybody else you counter, they will just press 2 and autopen your whole big front using their higher alpha, or better gun handling to trade with you.

        2. IS-M has better frontal armor than kv4 by far, not only is the lower plte better on the IS-M, also the upper plate is better and turret. Kv4 had good armor back in the days but still the lower plate, turret cheeks and machine gun port are like 180-190mm effective straight on and the tank is big and boxy. KV4 is a good side scraper, how ever when you side scrape evertybody will aim the machine gun mini turret which is the side of the is3 lower plate, or they just shoot your turret cheeks and lower turret armor.

    2. The IS-4 line is long dead for me, just isnt worth it. The gun was good long ago and its armor is unreliable since it became a tier 10, hell its upperfront is as effective armored as the new 705A lower plate, not to mention its overmatchable rooftop . Mobility and traverse speed is mediocre at best. I sold my IS-4 and i have not regreted it even once.

      1. IS4 has good armor towards lower tiers and actually towards all tanks shooting AP, how ever due to gold ammo inflation, for a tank to have good armor it \”must\” be immune to standard ammo and only pennable in the lower plate with gold….sadly the current situation on tier 9 and 10. Some tanks cant even pen TDs and HTs of the same tier with AP anymore. Keep in mind, the e75 cant pen the is4 in the lower plate since they added track linksm unless it gets a good pen roll and either can the e100.

The is4 just has too bad ROF, aim time and gun depression and dispersion to be competitive, but the armor itself is okay. Also the mobilty sucks. tanks like is7 are competitive because the upper plate and turret is immune to gold ammo also the gun handling is pretty good and it hits for like 500. Same with E5, only lower plate and cupola are weakspots but the mobility is good and gun handling and firepower great, it doesnt suffer from the meta as much as the older class-specific tanks did (is4 for example). Gold ammo usage is a great concearn for balancing. WG just buff armor on crappy tanks, but that doesnt solve the issue it only make it more difficult for tanks to pen with AP.

        1. It fels like E5 is suffering just as much as IS-4, because there is no point in playing E5 over Super Conqueror or other competitive heavies really.
