Source: WoT RU portal

Do you hear the wind rocking piles in the frozen wastelands of industrial areas? This is the place where desperate adventurers and decent fathers of the family lost illusions, experienced tragedies or became fantastically rich and met happiness in the mines.

Rifts over the mouth of the river, stone hills and forest plots – the expanse of the map with many options for traveling and secluded places with a good overview gives a large set of combinations for all types of equipment. Let’s see what is hidden in the mysterious “Klondike” and move to North America during the “gold rush.”

You are waiting for six points on the map “Klondike” and five short stories about conquering Alaska.

Kennecott Mine (Alaska)

The visiting card of the Kennecott Mines – red cascading houses with frequent white windows. They are the ones who flaunt in the upper area of the Klondike and form the industrial zone in the north of the map.

The zone is located between two mountain ranges – go here, if you are sure that your tank is in the teeth of the game. The offensive takes place along a narrow driveway with indestructible obstacles on both sides. It is worth knowing that the shelters located behind allow you to monitor this passage. If you are on an average tank, roll through the mines of Kennekota in in order to get around the flank of enemy heavy tanks that are lower.

Today, only the wind is walking here, and the old buildings are gradually decrepit and crumbling. But in the early twentieth century it was the center of the copper industry in Alaska.

In 1911, a railroad was built to the miners’ town. Hundreds of seekers of happiness flocked here! Five mines in Kennekott produced a record amount of ore at the time. True, as in the case with many other cities in the extractive industry, good times did not last forever. With each year, copper mined less and by the end of the 1930s the works stopped. Now, the ghost town of Kennecott is a national historical monument.

The fishing village of Ketchikan (Alaska)

https://ru-wotp.wgcdn.co/dcont/fb/image/klondike_02_02.jpg

They say that you can get to Ketchikan in three ways: by air, by water or born here. The basis of the economy of this fifth largest city in Alaska is tourism and fishing. Ketchikan is called the world capital of salmon: local boys catch it on an empty hook!

Even Ketchikan is a city-shop. In each house in the center of the village on the first floor there must be a shop. They sell mostly jewelry, souvenirs and warm clothes. The whole town adheres to the country’s favorite country style.

The fishing village inn the Klondike hid on a rocky islet. Multicolored houses with taverns and fish shops stand in dense rows, and wooden pavements go into the water on two levels. Water rocks wooden boats and fishing boats. But do not be fooled by the coastal idyll: hot combat encounters take place in this location.

Heavy tanks among rocks, pavement and fishing houses will find many reliable shelters. If the enemy exceeds you by number, it is better to retreat, luring them to where the allies are already waiting. But vehicles with weak armor are better to choose another direction.

 Kodiak Fishing village (Kodiak, Alaska)

https://ru-wotp.wgcdn.co/dcont/fb/image/klondike_03_02.jpg

In the XVIII century, these lands began to domesticate Russian emigrants. Here is the house of the first chief ruler of Russian settlements in America – Alexander Baranov. Now in the building there is a historical museum where objects of everyday life of Russian colonists are represented: saws, cauldrons, anvils, axes, nails, candlesticks, Russian flags. By the surnames of former Russian homeowners, in the American period, some Kodiak streets have been named: Volkov, Semyonov, Mitrokhin, Malyutin.

The main occupation of the inhabitants of Kodiak has long been fishing. On the picturesque harbors, a fresh catch is offered daily. The city is full of shops, galleries. Here tourists come from all over the world. They are attracted by a mighty beast – the Kodiak bears.

An old faded billboard greets those coming from the upper base. To the right of it there is a village with a white church, a water tower and a sawmill behind the crossroads. By the way, the prototype for local grocery stores was the Washington building with barbershop and a laundry located in it.

We do not advise to get stuck here for a long time. If you are an artillery, go to the railway, and then go up to the mines of Kennecott and make yourself comfortable. For heavy tanks it is better to go the mountain road, bypassing the bridge on the right, or to enter the industrial zone at the foot of the red mines. There are many places where you can hide from artillery fire. And keep in mind: the team occupying this industrial zone gets access to the “balconies” from which it can control the enemy’s actions.

The Sawmill (Ruby, Alaska)

https://ru-wotp.wgcdn.co/dcont/fb/image/klondike_04_02.jpg

The city of Ruby is located in the central part of Alaska on the bank of the Yukon River. In 1906 in the vicinity of the Ruby Creek River gold was first found. Then, in a radius of up to 50 kilometers from the village that arose here, new deposits were discovered.

The streets of Ruby were illuminated by electric lanterns in those times, telephone communications was functioning in the city, there were shops, a post office, two sawmills, several hotels, a mobile cinema, two newspapers were printed.

But by 1918 Ruby began to decline: many men of the city went to the front. In 1929, a fire destroyed a significant part of the city, and two years later, Ruby was devastated by a flood. By 1946, there was not a single resident left in the city, and during the war all mines were closed. Empty houses were occupied by the Eskimos from the nearby village of Kokrines.

Another industrial area on the Klondike is surrounded by a brick fence and extends to the water. At the berth on the shallows there is a cargo ship. Sawmill, boiler house pipes, a small railway and rows of elevators – everything looks very neat.

In the heat of battle you don’t examine your surroundings, but suddenly notice the warehouse building with narrow windows. Its prototype was a vegetable store in the city of Gutenberg, Iowa, owned by the local Corn Cannery Company. In 1984, it was registered in the National Register of Historic Places.

Past this industrial zone lies the way to the island. The team, which managed to consolidate in this direction, will control a significant area of the map. From this direction, you can organize a massive attack on the defensive positions of the enemy. To maintain control over this territory while defending, it is worth organizing a second line of defense a little further.

Gold mine on the Seward Peninsula (Alaska)

https://ru-wotp.wgcdn.co/dcont/fb/image/klondike_05_02.jpg

The lands of Seward, underestimated by the conquerors of Alaska, saved the prospectors of Klondike’s gold who were experiencing severe frosts: they discovered new deposits of gold. True, these deposits did not last long.

In the history of Alaska, this settlement played an important role. Seward was the base for supplying the construction of the railway in Alaska. However, in 1964 a part of the city was destroyed by a tsunami.

Many tourists are attracted to the Seward glacier, and some come to see the whales, sea lions, petrels and wildlife.

We focus on the windmill between the rocky hills to find a place with loose mines. Here you can see how the gold mining occurred in the best of Klondike’s times. The windmill drives a pump that pumps water from a small water tower. The stream of water rushes into the channel, bounded by bumps, to the trays for washing away gold …

On the map “Klondike” the place of gold mining is located in a secluded corner (this point is skirting the border of the map), not far from the point of departure of the lower spawn. It offers good views.

If you play as a tank destroyer, a little higher, closer to the base, find good fire points, from which it is easy to restrain the onslaught of the enemy.

Gottlieb Hailemann bottling company  (La Crosse, Wisconsin)

https://ru-wotp.wgcdn.co/dcont/fb/image/klondike_06_02.jpg

The city of La Crosse is located where the Black River River meets the La Crosse River and they flow into the Mississippi. One of its few very important enterprises is the brewery.

A couple of German expatriates founded the City Brewery in 1858. Since 1872, she began to bear the surname of one of the founders. Here they brewed beer and sold it at a modest price, adhering only to local and regional production. Now the brewery in La Crosse is run by the City Brewery.

https://ru-wotp.wgcdn.co/dcont/fb/image/klondike_06_01.jpg

In the Klondike map, the local brewery stands to the right of the lower base along the road to the bridge, which leads to the enemy base. This is one of the bridgeheads, for which it will be interesting to compete.

The gate to the local brewery is met by a sign with torn off letters. The streets form secluded places behind indestructible buildings and stone bumps. From this direction, you can organize an attack on the defensive positions of the enemy. To maintain control over the territory, it is worthwhile to think about a second line of defense in case of retreat.
