WoT – Tank Day 2017 Q&A

Slava Makarov and Anton Pankov under fire.

  • Two million Belarussians picked WoT
  • One of the most active nations are Poles. There’s more of them than Belarussians (2.9M vs 2M). The Chinese are also flocking to the game, and the Germans like collecting tanks – their players have the most rare tanks.
  • Special crews are plans. Pankov doesn’t dismiss the possibility of a special Belarussian crew.
  • Preparations are underway to host a tournament for people over the age of 30-40.
  • Tank trade-in was supposed to launch with the game, seven years ago. It’s one of the biggest innovations which appeared up till now.
  • User interface changes are planned, ranging from new additions to restructuring the old. The Personal Mission UI isn’t perfect, and it will be fixed.
  • The HD map Sandbox will start soon. Optimization efforts are underway.
  • Clan Wars are treated seriously, and errors will be rectified.
  • Unfinished things and modes stopped being implemented. Now the implementation of new content is much more thorough.
  • Will there be a tenth nation? Good question. One day for sure, for example the Italians, which have to be implemented, because they fought, and they used their own vehicles.
  • ATGM vehicles probably won’t be implemented as regular tanks, but more likely as special event vehicles.
  • The balance department has undergone some some personal changes, especially at the higher echelons.
  • It’s really hard to rebalance old premium tanks. If you touch anything, there will be a ruckus, the biggest drama queens being the EU server. We wait for a moment where we can change the KV-5. It’s a tank which rebalance we regularly postpone.
  • Camo personalization is being worked on, and maybe it will make its debut on the Sandbox. Players will be able to change colors, spot sizes and other things. Camo personalization needs a lost of interface changes. We have a prototype of the 2D personalization, and it looks really well.
  • The New Year event is being worked on.
  • The announcement and details of the new “Caliber” project will be given at this year’s WG Fest.
  • Some time ago Sergey Burkatovskiy (aka SerB) was confounded by introducing a one-tier spread in MM. Now it’s clear that introducing preferential matchmaking was a mistake. There are problems with some of those vehicles, but we’re readying them for a rebalance. Perhaps with some tanks, which will be unfit for rebalancing, we’ll propose a buyback.
  • Wheeled vehicles are a thing the devs really want to introduce. Work on them is underway, mostly physics. There’s a lot of historical wheeled vehicles reaching up to Tier X and they will be introduced into the LT branches.
  • The possibility to hide the stats or the nickname is very complicated. We’re thinking about it, and maybe this will be something we’ll take into consideration among the allowed mods. This will only happen when the client is shut down for mods, which is in progress.
