WoT Q&A – Kislyi Special 30.08.2017

Another Amway interview.

  • China always gave us trouble. We try to treat each cluster equally. It’s not like Slava Makarov said, when he stated that we focus on one cluster, but we focus on the game itself
  • The least active players are Americans
  • The only thing we can do is not give up, and improve the game
  • If the online player count drops, we know something went wrong. I’m at ease though, we’re in control. The only reaction to this, is figuring out why the players leave, and undertake appropriate measures to change it
  • Slava Makarov is a solid person. He’s got good ideas and a broad experience.
  • Yes, we have some secret projects on which we’re working, and which we still didn’t reveal. There are two, but I’d like it to be more.
  • We’re working on one of the ‘fatter’ projects in Seattle. Sadly, the work is going long, as we first tried out one concept, then another, finally ditching it altogether for some time.
  • All the ‘brains’ of WoT meet practically each day in one room and solve problems
  • After the success of World of Tanks in 2010, we didn’t buy villas and yachts, we kept it real
  • Making a hit game in a F2P way isn’t easy. Many things factor into it, like graphics, technology, income, progress, etc. Don’t forget that 75% of the players won’t spend a dime, but they’ll play for years
  • Maybe it’s weird, but I’m happy for each success of a gaming company. I believe that games are a part of our DNA
  • Caliber is our shooter, unlike Overwatch or CS:GO. It’s made for older players.

  1. They didn\’t buy yachts and villas. Sure… like the ikea guy you said he would still drive a 20 year old volvo and live in a small house. Then turned out he lives in incredible luxury.

  2. \”All the ‘brains’ of WoT meet practically each day in one room and solve problems\”

I would be so interested what people talk ybout in such meetings.
Not just WG but in general.
I just dont get it what problems they could talk about every day when the solutions to those problems take days/weeks/months to show an effect…

  3. “All the ‘brains’ of WoT meet practically each day in one room and solve problems”

He is talking about an empty room, never ever entered by a WG employee…

  24. >Seattle is working on one of the bigger WG products
    >It was cancelled at some point
So, WG spent loads of money to buy IP rights to a game, and then to buy the studio that the former project manager for that game works at – and then cancelled it and drove him away, only to restart work later?

  25. \”If the online player count drops, we know something went wrong. I’m at ease though, we’re in control. The only reaction to this, is figuring out why the players leave, and undertake appropriate measures to change it\”

Pretty easy, from my experience the good players in my circle are leaving because:
    – 25% RNG (that is 1/4th deviation both ways) on pen and damage, they are sick of bouncing shots that should pen.
    – Game mechanics designed to frustrate players.
    – Keep releasing new money milking premium tanks while not fixing the problems this game had for years.

    Just few of the reasons.

  26. •If the online player count drops, we know something went wrong –

    really? i mean really!
always thought WG high command didnt give a fuck about player numbers!
after alll WG is always right and we the players are always wrong and in WG\’s eyes were stupid as well
~ duh whats wrong with this picture?

•and undertake appropriate measures to change it

    of course!
like new MM system still +-2 and with a ladder system and rotation of Wins/ Loses
which DOES not work and on purpouse
~ Tier 6 and tier 8 always bottom tier and once in a blue moon T6 and T8 as a \’reward for bieing farmed\’ get a single Tier game which is NOT top tier, then next 10 games all bottom tier ready to be farmed (again
And of course the still unchanged 4 minute turbo slaughters still here
as the MM assumes that tanks play themselfs so its 15 tanks v 15 tanks (not player skill at all

yeah im sure this goes down well with all the players?

the recent 5x Special we had 90k peak time players the maximun on EU servers
= last year 2016 the 5x Special had 200k players on the EU servers at peak

    hmm let me think?
hmm no everything is fine ……..

    1. Well said.
The English saying \’Ignorance in bliss\’ fits Wargaming\’s general attitude very well.

  27. “All the ‘brains’ of WoT meet practically each day in one room and solve problems”

Commerades, today we will solve the problem of missing vodka bottles. I know many of you haven\’t been sober for ages so don\’t tell me that some Cypriot monkey stole it !

  28. Well, Victor may not have bought Villas and Yachts, but he\’s eating good! Put on a few pounds! Better go hit the treadmill

  29. I went from spending about $100 each month for five years, to spending zero overnight.
Sorry Vic,I\’m no longer impressed enough by your company enough to do that anymore.
And I know a LOT of people who have done the same recently.

So your 75% who will never pay is actually rising rather quickly.

  30. Perhaps it\’s because we here in the US get everything last if we get it at all. Then there is the apparent lack of love given to US armor t32 is a prime example. Every update you boost lota of Soviet tanks but few Americans. Heck we still spent even have a serious premium RD. I enjoy the game and have spent considerable amounts of money on it. I have no intention of leaving the PC version but come on quit adding more uber tanks and content and get what we have working right then move on.
