War Thunder – The Ta 154A-1 success story

In another War Thunder post this week, you’ll get to read about how you can use your modeling skill to rake in dirty shekels and make both Gaijin and players happy)))

In August of 2014 we unveiled our Revenue Share program, which allowed creators of high-quality content to have their work included in War Thunder and receive 25% of the revenue from every sale of the added content. Our players are already participating in this program — War Thunder currently features user camouflage schemes and the He 219, a German twin-engine aircraft from Daniil “Joy_Division__” Zaitsev.

At the end of last year there was one more addition to the Luftwaffe: the Ta 154A-1 from Vitaly “NovA29R” and Michael “__StrafeMike__” Ionnidis. This aircraft became available for purchase to all players with the release of update 1.65 “Way of the Samurai”.

We would like to announce changes in the Revenue Share program. From now on, any finished model that appears in the game, the author will receive guaranteed payments of between $6,000 and $10,000 (the final amount will be determined by the development team depending on the model’s complexity).  Content creators will no longer have to worry about their aircraft or tank not being in high demand or choose the “best selling” models for realization. It now doesn’t matter whether the model is added to the main research line, or as a premium vehicle or even as an event model (which is especially important for rare ground vehicles and aircraft). If you do the job well and the vehicle finds a place in our game you will get cash immediately! The full rules can be found here.

And here, a few words from the creator of the model.

One evening I as usual went on the game forums and posted a picture of a fictitious airplane. One of the players asked: “Hey, why don’t you make a real airplane?”
This thought sank deep into my mind… Finally, two of my favorite interests had combined. 3D graphics and aviation. I got to work on looking for a suitable candidate.
After some thought and looking at a bunch of photos of various airplanes, I decided to create the Ta 154. What can I say – I like its elegant design. For me, as a designer, how an airplane looks is always its main characteristic.

When development began, I had a lot of experience in creating 3D models, but experienced a lack of free time. I had many difficulties working on it because there wasn’t any precise information or detailed photos for this airplane, let alone blueprints.
In the process of creating the model, I regularly shared my development progress on the forum and the developers got in touch with me after a while. A preliminary decision was made to add the airplane to the game.

I’d created a flying prototype of the airplane. Daniil “Joy_Division__” Zaitsev was instrumental in this. At that time, without his priceless help, it would have been extremely difficult for me to get to grips with the CDK and export the model into the game.

Work on the model entered its active phase. After the developers checked the model, we decided to convert it to the day version of the A1. This is because the references and historical materials on the A1 are more precise. The shape of the frame remained unchanged. Other parts had to be developed further and improved. This was a good thing for the model. The detalization and accuracy of elements of the design increased significantly.

I’d like to say a big thank-you to the four people that helped me in my work on the project:

  • A user with the nickname RLC for helping create the camouflage for the first version of the model. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t used in the remade version of the airplane.
  • Next, the user Michael “__StrafeMike__” Ioannidis. For help in painting the airplane and working with PBR. In spite of difficulties in life, he created some wonderful camouflage and helped find me a range of airplane features that escaped my view.
  • Daniil “Joy_Division__” Zaitsev. Thanks to him for the consultation.
The developer Kuzma “rthunder” Lykov. Thanks to his reviews and attention to detail, we have the most accurate possible model of this airplane.
  • I’d also like to say thanks to everyone who couldn’t wait for this airplane and supported me. You’ve waited long enough 🙂

Would you like to give it a try?

Our Revenue Share partnership program is quite simple and available to everyone. By following these instructions, content creators develop historically accurate 3D models of military vehicles while sharing the creation process with you through our LIVE portal, where they can also find support and encouragement from other players. During this stage of the creation process we will contact creators of vehicles that we think should be included in the game.

Do you know your way around a 3D editor? Give it a shot! Create models for our game and make money!
