Q: what? kharhov and stalingard are the 2 maps i love playing in
A:Sure, but they can have some issues, and low FPS’s for smaller spec computers..
That’s why those two maps were the leading contenders for getting some work done to them on all servers , NA/EU/RU/Asia.
However, due to the strong desire for players to have as much map variety as possible, We will NOT be withdrawing the maps just yet, and will leave them in game until they have been worked on.
This varies between servers,, Ru for example will be withdrawing the maps from the game.. Asia will not but their probability of occurring has been reduced on Asia until they have been worked on.
Q: And as usual, they’ve taken the data and improvised what we actually want done to whatever suits them.
The only reason people voted Stalingrad and Kharkov is because of the game-breaking bugs which occur when playing on them.
Sure, a coupe of changes are always nice, but at least make some mention of the bug being fixed.

You have requested those maps get worked on many times, the maps are getting worked on..

Q: The biggest problem is how small the map rotation is, this game has so many maps but each session you get spammed with the same 3-5. This is one of the biggest factors when it comes to ruining the fun of the game for me, would be good to add just 2 or 3 extra maps each rotation.
A: There was a reduced map selection for the lower tiers.. This has now been altered for tier 4 and above so you will find a large increase of map variety with the lower tiers again now.
As mentioned in the news.

  • Map selection restrictions placed on lower-tiered tanks (Battle Tiers 4+) will also be altered to provide you with a wider range of maps on which you can use your favourite lower-tiered tanks.

​We have also suggested / requested to development some match maker improvements like .. ensuring a player doesn’t play on the same map too many times.. and many others..

Once again pubbies that cant sit in a bush in their TD and snipe and click on people in their arty gets listened to rather then actually fixing things that needs to be fixed.
Yes light tanks might not be as fun on kharkov or stalingrad, but neither is it to be a heavy tank on prok/fiery sailent and so on.
Lets not fix Live oaks which is the most imbalanced map in the game at the moment, It would have a 60-70% winrate from south spawn
El Halluf where 9 boxes off the map gets used.
Fishermans Bay with its crashes.
Airfield which tends to just be a campfest cause as soon as you peak a corner arty hammers you.

A: Live oaks.. or as called in game “44_North_America” is an averagely balanced map.
Stats are up and down , depending on server, and when the stats are pulled.
But basically in the past month and taking ~1.75 mil battles on the map in all game modes into consideration.. .. Team A won about 51.5% and team B won about 47.5% with a draw being the remainder…
or just taking random battles, the stats are about the same.
And no, a “Poll” wasn’t done.  A feedback thread was put up, so all written feedback could be read and taken into consideration.
Q: Oh yeah. How about that Fisherman’s Bay wherein there is a technical difficulty common to all? Did WG made a move regarding this already? I hope WG considered this already without this poll.

 A: Tech issues with Fisherman bay is minor, and fairly limited to this server..
At the moment its looking more like players mod use, or previously installed but no longer used mods.
If you are having issues with Fishermans bay, try clearing out the appdata directory, and reinstalling WOT Clean.
Q: What happened to all the “bring back Port” votes?
A: It was passed on as feedback to development, as well as in the form of a long personalized email to the new global producer based in NA and the usual upper management & development in Minsk.
Q:Oh and lets not forget sand river assualt.

I would love to see the win distribution on that map!
A: The stats for maps is very carefully and fully analysed,
We have clear stats of win %’s for each team for each game mode for each server, Etc which covers the almost 2 millions battles per month each map has..
The win %’s on all maps and game modes are balanced, and usually within 1%… Sand River.. or internally called 28+Desert.. is the same..
Balanced with win%’s to within 1%, on random, and also all game modes.
As well as Heat maps, showing common area’s of combat / where combat / traffic is conducted.

Can we get some info the amazing balance of live oaks
and how many times south spawn wins compared to north spawn?
My bet is 70% of the times…

Q: how about some ww1 themed maps for tiers 1-3 especially how the French tier 1 is a ww1 tank. For higher tiers we could have some post-d-day battle of normandy maps such as Villers-Bocage and Caen. Also I would like to see some Operation Market Garden maps such as Highway 69
A: Maps for tier’s 1-3 will be limited due to the mini client.. new players need to be able to download a small client and get playing asap..

 
Q: Ditto, some of those maps are just useless for LTs. Have you guys noticed how TDs have become the least favorite tanks for everyone. There are games when I don’t see any TDs in high tier battles.

A:Sure, but preventing players from obtaining the same map twice in a row, or .. similar such stats.. Is a topic for the matchmaker, so a different topic..
However that feedback has been suggested and forward to the devs..
Q: The top four results of the poll (based on 6 Feb news update) were:

It’s then fair enough that Stalingrad and Kharkov have been chosen to improve.  I’m keen to know why Pilsen was not also chosen?

 
A: Many figures are taken into consideration , not just numbers from Asia.
Written feedback , feedback from other servers, server analytics, ETC..
Q: While i never have any crash on Fisherman Bay, i don’t think its minor. At very least it certainly not limited to ASIA server only.
As you see, players from NA and EU also report they crashed there.

Yes sure..
I meant minor, as considering the maps play about 2 mil games each a month each, and reports of crashing are very low in comparison.
And yes as stated on Seb’s blog, Asia’s been working on it, IE has requested development look into the bug complaints for our players.
Asia can reduce the probability of the map until any bug issues are fully resolved, or even reduce the map down to “0”… But then there is also the regular feedback that players really love map variety and don’t want maps pulled.

if i understand correctly mm has a few maps for a range of tiers over a certain time frame, like a few hours right?
MM had all maps available at high tiers, and not all maps available at lower tiers.
Now the map selection for the lower tiers have been extended to the same as the higher tiers, IE all maps.
And no, its nothing to do with time or hours.
and this differs between servers, i.e. clusters so ppl on other servers can try to see different maps by switching clusters (like na west to east) at the cost of a bit more ping. we, or other small severs like kr dont have this option, thus the complaints about map variability since we have no options(excluding tank=tier selection but it feela this is not very effective, and we want to play certain tanks, not maps.)
Map probability can be altered, per server..
For example .. now Kharkov and Stalingrad are OFF on Ru server.. And ON but on a reduced probability on Asia.
The rest of the maps (Excluding Kharkov and Stalingrad) all have a normal default / equal probability.
so it feels like the solution here really isnt about increasing(not reducing) the total number of maps that mm picks from, its about the number of maps mm picks within a set timeframe.

as you say, it probably isnt something that asia staff can turn on and off so easily, but could you please ask the devs to change the number of maps in rotation, for thos server only or globally i dont really care much but just please.
probably everything ive said has been said at some point but im gonna post it anyways just to pit it out there there are more of us feeling this way

edit: ive experienced fiahermans bay crashes at least once as well, i just never bothered reporting it since a few others did and support probably woulldnt even look at it or just blame mods.
Q: call me a conspiracy theorist but its funny,

the two maps your most safe from arty in heavies get reduced in mm spread,
but you refuse to touch the camp or get [edited] by arty maps like airfield, fjords, westfield,
seriously airfield and fjords are such garbage maps WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS IN MY MM SPREAD EVERY DAY
phrok and malinovka would be here two but these maps allow for proper use of scouting which keeps the game flowing
perhaps tanitha before you go saying these maps are fine you should learn how to play the game first so you can develop an informed opinion
oh i forgot about erlenberg the map where each team takes their side and both teams camp until one teams gets bored enough to yolo and generally lose

A: No maps were “Reduced in MM spread”
Two maps were reduced in their probability to occur .. IE the number of games played on this maps has been reduced … a lot.
This is due to the two maps, being the top of all servers “Which maps would players like to see removed / improved the most”
The only difference being on Asia we aren’t removing them ,, and are just reducing their probability to occur, as our players like greater map variety.

Let me phrase it differently.
There is no way in hell Team A wins 51.5% of the time in higher tier games.
simple as that. Lower tiers where pubbies go into the town which is completely irrelevant might play out differently but every single game in higher tier goes, send everyone across train tracks. Team A wins the water side and then just keeps pushing the advantage.
 
Each set of data, will contain slightly different stats.
Analyzing stats of higher tiers say battle tier 8+ on Aisa, OR, battle tiers 10+, or all servers, or , etc .. some are very slightly higher, but not much.

thats like going out on town and asking for peopls oppinions about politics.
80% will have no clue or a realistic solution to anything.
How about getting feedback from the top players on the server who actually has insight full feedback and have proper reasons for it.
Most of the players will just vote on a map they dont like or dont know how to play…

And you are wrong.
I play full vanilla with a complete fresh client becase tournament rules. Not a single old file in there when I was crashing.
I will agree that I have not crashed since I brought it up with you but that honestly means nothing to me and is probably just luck if nothing has been fixed.

I’m just passing on the info provided from devs. I don’t work on maps, or have stats on map crashes.
And the info is, there appears to be more crashes from Asia players, than other servers, and almost no issues from the huge RU playerbase.
So i’m not sure what’s different here,, that generates more apparent issues here..
I’ll keep pushing the map bug with development, and see if i can get any more info on it for you.

Hold on a second, so are you telling me that Sand river assualt mode is withing 1% of either team winning? Or am I misunderstanding this?
Cause if you are, you really need to play the game and not look at the figures someone is giving you.
I am more then happy to collect replays from the last 10-20 games and give them to you.
No comment atm, im handling other things atm and don’t have those stats in front of me.

And also streaming pretty much every game I play.
Im not silly enough to [edited] about things just for the sake of bitching and by know I would have thought you realized that.
That wasn’t the point, the point was your wildly inaccurate “70%” claims. Which is why i provided the real figures.
I can probably tell you the outcome from games 60-70% of the time before they even start and when I say some maps are inbalanced its because they are.
I [edited] hate windstorm for example, but I dont [edited] about it because I dont like it.
Map balancing is easy to pull the real figures for.. And all the figures .. like..
Number of battles on the map.
Average duration of the battles.
Team A win %
Team B win %
Draw %
Extermination and Base capture rates.
As well as heat maps for traffic flow and combat.
For every server / or all servers.
For every tier / or specific tiersFor every day/week/month, or specific days / weeks / months.
ETC..
But what maps players like , and what players want in a map, etc .. are different topics though, so those require feedback.
Q: A 4% swing over almost 2 mil battles is pretty significant.
A: Maybe..
But looking at feedback of least liked maps .. there doesn’t seem to be much correlation between the stats “most balanced”, and “most liked”.
Q:Played Mittengard for the first time in Tier Xs.  Funny how a map which is only played in Tier 1-3 which I hardly ever play, is now a Tier X CWs map!!!

A:Maps that clanwars is played on, is determined by WG Asia , or me specifically.
This can be set per tier, IE can be three different map sets for the tier levels.
And can be set each season / event / campaign.
All discussions and feedback on the topic to date, has been “We want to play on all maps and have max variety”
So this is about how things are setup..
IMO its part of the strategy of clanwars .. You can see where the land is, and what maps are on each land… So you can decide where you want to play , and what land you want to own and regularly defend.
Some servers just go with a small 1/2 the maps selection and pick the most balanced maps for the clanwars arena’s..
We however use max maps randomly, for max variety..
If you wish to arrange, certain maps to be excluded from the event at the end of season 2 / and in future. feel free to arrange this in a forum thread for the topic in the CW section of the forums.

A: The Mittengard in clanwars is a dev error, they will be fixing it soon / current unknown eta.
Q: So um, when are we getting larger maps, given that the largest is 1000m x 1000m and view ranges are 455m?
A: A topic like that would be very big news,, and couldn’t be leaked by Asia server just yet :)
